Celebrating Seed Sovereignty in Southern Oregon

In May 2026, the Dry Farming Institute joined Our Family Farms in Talent, Oregon, for Save Our Seeds. Save Our Seeds is an annual celebration of seed sovereignty and community resilience in Jackson County.

Save Our Seeds honored the successful campaign to ban GMO crops from being grown in Jackson County, Oregon. It was a landmark win for growers, families, and the land we steward together. Every spring, this gathering recommits to the values that made it possible.

We were proud to be part of the celebration. We had the opportunity to connect with growers and advocates who share our commitment to building resilient food systems across the Pacific Northwest.

Why Seed Sovereignty Matters to DFI

Seeds are at the heart of dry farming. Selecting crop varieties adapted to drought conditions and limited water is one of the foundational practices of water-resilient agriculture. Preserving access to diverse, regionally adapted seed is a food security issue.
